At the annual real estate spring party “MIPIM”  in Cannes (11th – 14th March 2014) businessmen will not be totally alone this year. For the first time in 25 years of undisturbed deal making they may meet some of their final “customers”, victims or resistors, shouting in a square of Cannes.   The “European Action Coalition for the Right to Housing and the City” organizes an international protest against the huge speculation projects, which normally get prepared and celebrated at this annual  meeting of the who-is-whos in the global property market.

The international protest on Wednesday 12th of March includes a public gathering with accusations of some of the investors and cities attending the Mipim. This “Peoples Tribunal” will start at 14H30 at Allées de la Liberté in Cannes.

Groups from diverse places in Europe like Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Geneve, Istanbul, Lisbon, London, Milano, Padova, Rhine-Ruhr-Metropolis, Wallonia, and several cities from France will be present denouncing speculation.

Each group will present a plea alleging violation of people’s right to housing and the city by several investors and the financial world attending MIPIM. The most egregious and ongoing cases of privatization of housing and cities and its impact on people’s lives in several European cities and regions will be highlighted.

From 17H30 to 22H a manifestation with concerts and speeches will follow at the same place.

Protests will happen also by other groups like trade unions, ATTAC, neighborhood associations, tenants associations, etc.
