Sulukule

Sulukule is on of the oldes roma-neigbourhood in the world, which is demolished through a neoliberal urban renewal project. Hunderts of people have lost their homes and they should move toTaşoluk, which is 40km far away from the city center.

An interdiscplinary team called STOP, No Frontiers Autonomous Planners, worked on an alternative development plan for Sulukule. Preservation of the historical building structures and the social and economic developement of the area are contents of this plan.

Massive protest and resistance against the demolition and eviciton of the inhabitants of Sulukule has formed. “Sulukule Platform” is a group of students, academic persons, journalists, urban researchers who are supporting the inhabitants and neighbourhood organisations to bring their concerns to light.
