The Recent Demolishment In Sulukule
Fatih Municipality continues to destroy Sulukule neighborhoods in the last two days.The district is under state-led, forced transformation since the last few years. The cafe (kahve) of the neihgborhood, which have been serving as a meeting place for the solidarity activities was transformed into a children workshop place few months ago. Children are always the primary victims both in urban struggles and conflict spaces, but always the most playful inhabitants in resistance by borrowing tactics of “derive” . We learn from them.
Few days ago the bulldozer of Fatih municipality tried to destroy the children workshop place, however the children resisted against it by closing themselves into the place by playing darbukas and singing from the windows. However yesterday, very early morning, at 7 am, the buldozer came again and succeded to destroy the workshop place. Did also continue to destroy two houses in Küçük Çeşme Sokak that were supposedly protected officially by the conservation board. There is an official paper that do not allow demolishment in this surrounding where the two houses were placed. Now, Sulukule Platform will complain to the public prosecutor with the legal paper.
…fights against bulldozers will continue…also plays, music and game, painting workshops will continue in another location of the neighborhood…
