Description: On October 11th, 2009, an Alternatives Camp will take place in Liege. During a whole day, we will occupy the public place in the city (esplanade St Léonard). This camp will be an occasion for us to gather, exchange on our alternative initiatives and coordinate our mobilisations. The aim is to lay the foundations for another development, breaking with the traditional model, being socially fair and environmentally sustainable.

Why?
International political and financial representatives only speak for themselves, defend their own common interests. Their actions demonstrate, every day more than ever before, that they won’t take any ot the radical measures that would be necessary for improving Humanity’s well-being when we are confronted with the first effects of a total crisis that will affect us all over the world. Using mass flows of media communication in order to keep seeking after their egotistic illusions, they try to persuade the consuming middle class that green capitalism is THE answer. But we know that it is not so. We know from experience that ecology and capitalism are antagonistic for good.
We know that economic growth can only exist when disadvantaging the peoples and Nature….
… in the end we will have to chose between “change or vanish”.
And the end is now, right before disaster!
During the World Social Forum held last January in Belém, Brazil, the Social Movements Assembly (SMA) called for a Global Mobilization Day of struggle for the Mother Earth (against colonization and life commodification), foreseen for October 12th 2009. Local communities need to come together and react to build a world focused on meeting basic human rights, respecting Nature’s rights and struggling agaisnt commodification of everything that participates of Life on this planet.
Therefore, the Assemblée Populaire Liégeoise, supported by the CADTM/GTS Liège, organizes an Alternatives Camp on Sunday, October 11th in Liege (Belgium) where will meet those who work or are willing
to work to set up social and environmental radical alternatives.
How to take part?
Each individual, organisation, movement, collective, etc.willing to take part to the Alter Camp is invited to prepare his/her/its tent(s), food to share, alternatives to promote, music, ideas and desires according to the spirit of this gathering.
There will be…
Spaces for exchange, practical workshops, an international agenda of the mobilisations to come, good healthy food and self made drinks (take your plastic glass and cutlery with you !!!), music, stimulating discussions, and what you will bring along.
