“Right to City” conference in Berlin

I am just coming back from “Right to the City” conference in Berlin, a meeting of leftist urban resarchers from (mainly) Germany, Britain, the U.S. and Canade at the occasion of Peter Marcuses 80th birthday celebration.

It was very dense and important meeting with numerous research reports of highest interest for urban social movements. And most of it even related to the current crisis and the situation after the Obama elections.

Presented papers should be published HERE.

So far there are audio recordings from Peter Marcuses keynote and reactions:

One of the highlights of the conference with no doubt was the presentation of the Rights to the City Alliance in the U.S.  by some of it’s organizers and supporters at the last day.

The Right to the City Allliance is neither the implementation of intellectual books nor a Charta to be implemented by states.

It is a frame for the building of upscaled alliance of different urban social movements, which includes a high level of strategic reflection.

For me it’s an encouraging model we had to think about in Europe as well.

Here is it’s website: http://www.righttothecity.org/

For more information for instance see one it’s members, the Miami workers center,

especially this conversation: PDF document , video. which I think figueres out the idea very well.

A list of members of the right to the city alliance (with links) is here.

At one of the members, the “Grassroots Global Justice”, is a call for action at G 20:
